With over 600 members, Kihei Canoe Club is one of the largest in Maui. Annual membership in Kihei Canoe Club is open to any resident or non-resident who is on-island for a minimum of three months per year and is interested in reviving, developing and perpetuating Hawaiian Culture and traditions through instruction, competition, and training, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, age, or handicap.
The membership year is from January 1 to December 31. Annual dues must be paid in order to be a member with full privileges to participate in all club programs, including recreational and race paddling, cultural activities and more.
Per the club's bylaws, regular members are all adult members with dues paid for the current year. Regular members who participate in MCHCA (Maui County Hawaiian Canoe Association) or HCRA (Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association) racing activities must abide by all rules of those associations. Regular members who transfer their membership to another MCHCA/HCRA club for racing purposes will retain full membership status in the Club except they may not sit on the Board of Directors or attend its meetings. Annual dues must be paid and all applicable insurance waivers signed by January 31 of the calendar year in order to be a member with full privileges to paddle in Club canoes.
All members are expected to provide their own paddles. Paddles at the club are for visitor use only. Club policy also requires members to have their own Personal Floatation Device meeting the requirements for the club’s insurance.
Only members who have maintained active member status for 1 year may bring guests to Visitor Paddles per club policy.
