PaddleCore is a program for members to learn & enhance their paddling technique while at the same time improving their fitness. The paddle technique focuses on a smooth, quiet "catch", a long and deep stroke, and a quick return. Time may be spent learning in the club training tank and on the water with drills. Paddling occurs at varying intensity levels and there is frequently a friendly race at the conclusion. Sessions are about 1 hour in length covering about 3+ miles.
Currently we are offering PaddleCore sessions on Monday's, Wednesday's, and Friday's - 6:00am to 7:00am. We ask that members arrive at least 15 minutes before start time to help get marker lights on the canoes (if needed due to darkness) and to move canoes down to the water. After stretching, we have a short talk about technique and the workout. Then crews are announced and the canoes launched at 6:00am. When canoes return to the club after an hour on the water, everyone helps put the canoes away and meets for a short review.. Those who need to get to work early can depart when the canoes return.
Because of the popularity of the program members must sign up for the sessions they'd like to attend each week. Just click the PaddleCore event below and follow the directions. Pre-registration allows crew lists to be created with the workouts to be sent to those attending in advance.
Lastly, if you are new to paddling, we recommend you attend one of the Saturday Paddling Technique Classes or attend a few recreational paddles first. This will help you get the feel of paddling so you'll be ready for the strenuous paddling workouts we have in PaddleCore. Contact one of the contacts listed on any of the PaddleCore event pages as they can help you determine the best way for you to get started.
